Hi, I’m Suzie Thompson. I am all about building community. I work with business and community groups, family and individuals to create events and projects that bring people together.
In addition to working with customised projects, I curate for community music groups and lead ukulele groups and choirs for seniors, children, in schools, in pubs, and even in prisons.
I see how these groups improve peoples social skills, citizenship, and sense of connection to others. I find all this very rewarding, and feel privileged to be part of it
I love projects that build personal connection, especially those that create a third place. The first place being home, the second is work and the third is the social places and events where community and connection to others is created and developed. These are family and social gatherings, your children’s school, local markets, cafe, parks, pubs and clubs, music and sporting events, and online social networks.
Beyond preparing music and leading participants, my roles include research, strategic assessment, liaising with stakeholders, developing systems, budgeting, marketing, and empowering the teams that nurture and maintain the project or event.
After a post uni decade of inner city living and corporate work, and playing the Perth music scene, I returned to a semi-rural lifestyle which (thanks to the digital age), is no longer as compromised by distance. But still, I see that both urban and country life can be extremely isolating unless we are engaged with our community. I believe connection to others is key to well being and happiness.
